Philosophy and Aims of our international school in Brussels

Philosophy of our international school

We provide a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that fosters the enjoyment of learning and engenders a spirit of inquiry. We aim to provide a solid foundation that will fit our pupils for whatever educational environment they will move to in the future. We seek to develop young people with enquiring minds who are self-confident and self-motivated and who understand and care about the society in which they are growing up.

Aims of our international school

We place our priorities in high standards of teaching; and we assist each child to attain his or her full potential in every aspect of classroom activity. We treat each pupil as an individual; we encourage him or her to attain the highest standards in all aspects of school life appropriate to his or her capabilities, and most importantly, we take pride in the efforts and achievements of all pupils as we seek to develop their talents.

Philosophy of international school BJAB in Brussels Aims of our international school BJAB in Brussels

  • 'Broadening Horizons' is a fundamental aim of the BJAB: pupils learn about the cultures of others as a direct consequence of the international background of our students. We value the feelings, interests and views of all members of our school community and support an openness of ethos between staff and pupils. The Golden Rules form a cornerstone to our behaviour in school.
  • As part of personal, social and health education (PSHE), the teachers discuss rights and responsibilities with their classes: these are shared throughout the whole-school community. Staff endeavour to promote the independence of each child to celebrate individuality. Children have opportunities to become involved in decision-making processes through our School Council, and personal effort and initiative are rewarded through our 'House System'.
  • Promoting children's creativity is a key aim of the school. Children are encouraged to explore and develop their ideas in the arts and to look for innovative solutions to problems and the application of skills in all subjects. Each term the school undertakes collaborative work in areas such as Design & Technology and Science, pupils undertake visits and our 'Projects' may culminate in drama or shared presentations.

The teaching and learning at the international school BJAB should be an enjoyable and successful experience.

Pupils learn in an environment which is positive, secure and caring. It is important that everyone is given an opportunity to achieve their full potential by building on their own competency, confidence and levels of self-motivation.

Parents should feel confident and trust that their children are learning in a secure and happy envionment in which they will experience success at an appropriate level.
