Early Years Department

We have an established specialist Early Years Department, which includes Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Reception classes. Here we offer an 'Early Years Foundation Stage' (EYFS) curriculum following guidelines laid down by the UK Department of Education. The emphasis is on developing confidence and early learning skills in a happy and secure environment. Young children will have a wide range of different experiences, competencies and interests when they join the school at the age of three, four or five. It is our aim-with well trained and qualified practitioners, and a well- resourced and planned programme - to advance their learning and so provide opportunities for all children to succeed in an atmosphere where they feel cared for and valued.

Many children first attend pre-school or nursery around their third birthday. Within the Early Years department at the British Junior Academy of Brussels, part time or full time places are available in the Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten classes. Children then transfer to the Reception class during the year of their fifth birthday.

The Early Learning Goals are integrated into 6 areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development;
  • Communication, Language & Literacy;
  • Mathematical Development;
  • Knowledge & Understanding of the World;
  • Creative Development;
  • Physical Development.
